Day by day

Open each day to explore the journey.

Day 1 Ölgii arrival and a Uujim welcome

Meet us at Ölgii airport or an agreed town pickup point and travel to Uujim. Settle into our family guest ger, share a welcome meal and talk through the weather, your equipment and the host family's plans. Overnight in Uujim.

  • Arrival transfer
  • Family welcome
  • Trip briefing
Day 2 Meet the migrating family

Travel to the family's current camp when access allows. Meet your hosts, get to know the livestock and see how the household prepares for its seasonal move. Share meals and settle into the sleeping arrangements agreed for your route.

  • Host-family introduction
  • Camp life
Day 3 Preparations or the first moving day

Follow the family's decision: spend time around preparations, or accompany part of the herd's journey if they move today. Join suitable tasks when invited. Walking, agreed riding and vehicle support depend on the terrain, conditions and your experience.

  • Seasonal preparations
  • Guided participation as conditions allow
Day 4 A day at the herd's pace

Continue alongside the move, or spend the day with your hosts at camp if the herd pauses. Your guide chooses appropriate ways to take part, with time for meals, conversation and observing the family's everyday work. The route and distance follow the family rather than a fixed schedule.

  • Time with the herders
  • Shared camp meals
Day 5 On the move or settling at spring pasture

If your hosts have reached their next camp, see how they settle in and care for the herd. If the move continues, follow its rhythm with your guide. Reaching a particular pasture or seeing the whole migration is not guaranteed.

  • Family and livestock routines
  • Photography with your hosts' permission
Day 6 A flexible weather and travel day

Keep a full day available for a delayed move, slower roads or rest. This buffer can move within the itinerary. If it is not needed, spend more time with the family or return earlier to Uujim for local walks and an unhurried evening.

  • Weather buffer
  • Family time or a local walk
Day 7 Return to Uujim

Allow time for the return journey to Uujim. Bathing is available at our family guesthouse, followed by a final shared meal and a night in the family guest ger. Confirm your onward arrangements with us before the last day's transfer.

  • Return journey
  • Uujim bathing stop
  • Farewell meal
Day 8 Back to Ölgii

Transfer to Ölgii airport or your agreed town endpoint. The tour ends in Ölgii. Arrange onward travel only after we have discussed your arrival and departure connections.

  • Departure transfer

Questions

What is the starting price based on?

The indicative Spring 2027 starting price is per person for four or more guests travelling together and sharing accommodation. Groups of one to three receive a separate quote. We confirm the total price, route, inclusions and dates in writing before you book; an enquiry holds no place and requires no online payment.

Are groceries and meals included?

Yes. Groceries, cooking and all meals during the agreed eight-day itinerary are included. Tell us about allergies and dietary preferences before confirmation so we can agree a workable food plan with you. Alcohol and personal purchases are separate.

When does the Spring Migration trip run?

We plan March 2027 trips around the host family's actual move. Later spring dates are possible only when that family's plans align. Weather, pasture and livestock needs determine timing. We confirm the proposed experience with you before you arrange travel, rather than advertising a guaranteed moving date.

Will the family move every day?

No. The sample itinerary includes preparations, possible moving days, camp life and a full flexible day. The family decides when to move, and the route and sequence may change. We cannot promise a complete migration, a particular distance or a camel caravan. If the family's plans do not match your dates, we discuss different dates or an explicitly agreed alternative before confirming your trip.

Where do we sleep, and can we bathe?

The first and final nights are planned in our family guest ger in Uujim, with shared host-family accommodation during the countryside portion. We confirm the type of shelter, bedding and equipment for your route before booking. Bathing is available only at the Uujim family guesthouse; there are no bathing facilities with the migrating family.

Do I need riding experience or winter equipment?

Tell us your riding experience, walking comfort and cold-weather travel experience. We agree suitable participation and any rides before confirmation. Spring can still bring snow, wind and freezing conditions. We provide a trip-specific packing discussion and confirm what bedding, riding equipment and personal winter kit you need to bring.
